Minister assures delegates that a survey will be got under way and tenders called. TC 5. 9.1885 The survey seems close at hand. Much discussion at the Council table about position of Station. The old flying survey had the Station near the intersection of Gladstone and Canning Streets. This is too far from the Business centre, but the problem is in getting the line over the Sheoak Ranges. According to Cr Cheetham, he has been told that a very level road can be made from the Reservoir Dunolly, there is a gap which can be penetrated. This will obviate problems with positioning of the Station. A Committee is appointed to inspect this route so that the Council will be in a position to point out the best access to the surveyor. TC 24.10.1885 A party of surveyors is at last to start work. TC 14.11.1885 Thomas Boan, one of those who were of the opinion that a better route could be found, marks out a blazed path from the Reservoir to Dunolly.
