Prince of Wales & Old Poverty GMCo's main shaft, Tarnagulla, 16 January 1886.

Looking west to east.
On the extreme left atop the hill can be seen the headframe and whim of Cheetham's London and Lancashire shaft which dates from 1857.
On the extreme right is the headframe and winder house of the Victoria shaft, dating from 1863, and to its left is the 20-head crushing battery erected by the United Poverty Reef Company in 1869.
The main shaft itself was commenced in November 1883, to the west of the old workings on the Poverty Reef, and at the time of the photograph was about 550 feet deep and sinking.
The low mullock dump on the right would become much larger over the years, and for many decades was locally known as the Blue Heap.
